Okta FAQs

Q: I got a new phone. How do I get to the barcode to set it up again?

Q: How can I change the phone number for the voice call in Okta?
A: On the Okta homepage, click your name at the top right and click Settings. Click ‘Edit Profile’ and verify your password. Scroll down until you see ‘Extra Verification’. Click the Reset button to the right of the multifactor authentication option (Voice Call) you want to configure again and you’ll be able to do it over.

Q: I don’t see the option to login with the Okta Verify app on my phone, only the phone call. Where is it?
A: Click the little down arrow beside the voice call authentication option to change the method to Okta Verify.

Q: In the Okta Verify app, what do I do with this spinning wheel (blue circle) and the changing numbers?
A: That is another form of authentication you can use if you do not want to respond to the popup notification. It can be used on the sign in screen by clicking ‘Or enter code’. If you are in an area without cell coverage you can use this instead of tapping APPROVE to get in.

Q: How do I get my direct dial number if I don’t know it?
A: Contact John Griggs. He can look that up for you.

Q: Can we check the box for ‘Do not challenge me on this device for the next 12 hours’?
A: Yes. That keeps you from having to login more than once per day, per computer.

Q: Do I need to open the Okta Verify app on my phone?
A: No. The app just needs to be installed. You don’t need to go into the app. When you attempt to login, the app will popup and ask you for approval. All you need to do is tap approve. The app has the ability to generate codes as another form of authentication on the sign in screen where it offers you the option to ‘Or enter code’ just below the ‘Send Push’ button.

Q: How can I add the Okta Verify authentication option if I didn’t do it before, or I had a problem with it?
A: On the Okta homepage, click your name at the top right and click Settings. Click ‘Edit Profile’. Scroll down until you see ‘Extra Verification’. Click the Reset (or Setup) button to the right of the multifactor authentication option you want to configure again and you’ll be able to do it over.
